storyline of the film tonight in 1962 aman named tony lip valalonga is working in one of the biggest nightclubs in newyork citytony works as a waitress as well as asecurity officer while on guard tony saw the head of a famous gangster in newyork city enter and leave his favoritehat in the luggage storage because theconditions for entering the club are notwearing a hat he loved his hat so muchhe even threatened to burn the club ifhe lost it from a distance tony whoheard the threat then got an evil ideawhen the gangster chief wants to go homeand ask for his hat again he gets angrywhen the custodian says that his hat hasbeen lost the head of the gangster againthreatened to burn the club if untiltomorrow the club still had not foundhis hat hearing the threat the clubowner was forced to temporarily closethe club until this problem is resolvedtony feels guilty and then goes to meetthe gangster chieftony then returns his hat and tells thathe snatched the hat from a thief but thethief managed to escape tony then asksthe gangster leader to forgive the ownerof the club where he works the gangsterleader who thinks tony is a hero as athank you he then gives tony moneythe next morning tony came home tochange clothes and sleepthere he lived with his wife nameddolores and their two childrenin the afternoon when he woke up tonysaw dolores making drinks for two blackplumbers who were repairing the faucetin his house after the two blackcraftsmen left tony immediately threwaway their used glasses because he foundthem disgusting in 1962 racism inamerica was still very severe and therewas no law on human equality and whitepeople still considered black people tobe inferior to them including tony tonyalso doesn't want to have to drink froma black man's glassnow the club where tony works is stillclosed because the club owner istraumatized by the threat from thegangster leader yesterday tony isofficially unemployed that afternoontony got a call from his friend tony's friend offers a job to be the personalchauffeur of a famous pianist named drdon shirley or commonly called dochearing the offer tony was interestedand then asked for the doc's homeaddressthe next morning tony came to the doc'shouse when they meet tony looks confusedit turns out doc is a black man with astrange style and attitude at that timethe doc wore a bright yellow shirt witha gold necklace and then sat on a thronelike a king the doc informed him that hewas planning an eight week tour ofamericathat's why he needs a driver as well assomeone who can take care of his travelschedule who can wash and iron hisclothes at a salary of 100 per week buttony refused he didn't want to be ablack servanttony's principles are very stronghe is a person who sticks to hisprinciples no matter what happensbut when the doc raised his salary to125 per week tony immediately agreed theday of the tour has arrived the docmanagement then gave tony the car keysthey also gave a book called green bookthe book contained recommended restaurant routes and a list of lodgings that allowed blacks to enter and tony's job as a driver begins along the way tony was annoyed that the doc always forbade him starting from eating while driving smoking and talkingtony didn't like black people from the start now his hatred has grown many times bigger because of docthey arrived in the city of pitts burghpennsylvania in the evening for their first tour doke and two of his alaccompaniments performed in front of white people in the show tony was amazed and did notexpect lowly black people to play the piano so well on the next tour tony took the time tocheck out the piano the doc would use intonight's show tony saw the condition ofthe piano was very dirty tony then askedone of the officers to replace the piano but the officer refused he said that dirty piano is suitable forblack people like doc hearing the officer's words tony was annoyed and then immediately hit himafter the show the two of them went tothe next town as usual tony was amazedwatching the piano playing doc in hisadmiration tony began to think why thedoc wants to appear to entertain whitepeople when they always look down on himthe next day on the next tour the dockwas well received by white visitorsdifferent from the previous tourafter performing one song the doc askedfor a break when the doc wanted to go tothe bathroom the committee forbade himto use the toilet and order the doc touse a special toilet for black peopledoc feels insulted he then took tonyhome briefly to the injustice pwhen he returned to the show tony wasconfused as to why the doc could smilegreeting white people without lookinghurt one of the ians later informed that this was not the first time the dochad been humiliated doc is used to it it can even be said that he has been trained to withstand insults he alsoasked tony to be prepared because in thefuture there will definitely be racisttreatment that is worse than thisthe next day tony took the time to tony's words the doc felt calmafter returning from the bar tonyinvited the doc to chat in the hotellobby there doc told him how he startedto become the famous pianist he is nowonce when he was playing the piano in abar a white pianist liked his playingthe pianist then gave him a dark job ata record company to play classical which is the original white  ofwhite people since then the doc hascontinued to play classical  tonythen advised the doc to try playing the he wanted namely jazz he tellsthem that what they really like aboutthe doc show is not the classical but because they love to see the docplay the piano for tony doc's pianoplaying is amazing hearing all thesupport from tony doc was happy butafter all he's been contracted to playclassical  after the show in thecity of memphis the two of themcontinued their tour to the next citybut on the way tony's car was stopped bytwo police officers one of the cops thentold tony to get outthe police then continued to interrogatetony the police consider doka fugitivebecause he is black and thinks tony isan accomplicetony became angry and he immediately hitthe policemanthey were both arrested and put inprison inside the police station doctries to ask why he was also imprisonedeven though he didn't do anything wrongbut none of the police are willing toanswer the question doc annoyed doc thenthreatened to sue the police if hewasn't allowed to call his lawyerhearing the threat the police finallyallowed to call not long after thepolice chief was seen answering a phonecall from someone with a frightened facehe keeps apologizing and promises torelease doc soonseeing the police chief terrified tonywonders who exactly the person the docis contacting is after being free theyreturned to continue their journeydoc then told him that due to tony'sbehavior he had to ask for help from theyounger brother of the united statespresident who is currently serving onthe board of the attorney general'soffice just to release them both fromprison hearing the story instead ofapologizing tony laughed at first it allsounded like normal chatter until tonysaid that doc was a sultan with lots ofwealth living in a luxurious house andhaving a perfect life immediately thedoc got angry and then got out of tony'scar the confused tony then rushed afterhim with emotion doc said that tony didnot know anything about his life eventhough he lives in a luxurious house hefeels alone all this time dog wasimprisoned by white people who had paidhim to entertain them they do respectthe doc on stage but when the concertended all the white people again treateddoc the same way they insulted otherblack people doc is lonely and no whiteperson wants to be his friend even blackpeople also stay away from him becausethey think that doc's nature is similarto white peopledoc has always been alone withoutfriends and without family withoutrelatives hearing the outpouring of thepianist heart tony could only be silentall this time he was jealous why can alowly black person like doc have a lotof money when his job is only to playthe piano while tony had to work hard tosupport his family from the doc storytony realizes that no matter how high aposition or how much wealth black peoplehave their lives are still much harderthan tony's after being satisfied withventing his heart doc returns to the carthe two of them then continued theirjourney they arrived at the finaldestination of the tour which is anelite restaurant in the birmingham citythere again the doc gets racisttreatment the restaurant manager gavehim a waiting room in the warehouse nearthe kitchen while the two alaccompaniments provided a luxuriousprivate waiting room seeing thattreatment tony could only be silentinside the restaurant while tony washaving dinner two doc ians came andsat with tony one of the ians thensaid that actually without the need totour america doc already has a lot ofmoney the reason why he made this touris to open the hearts of the wholecommunity that black people deserve tobe recognized and treated as equals notlong after the doc followed into the restaurant when the doc wanted to join them he was chased out by the maids the waiter explained that black people werenot allowed in here tony then tried tonegotiate with the restaurant manager to allow the dinner dock in the restaurant just once but the manager still won't allow it and as an apology the manager will prepare a table in the back garden so the doc can have dinner there doc then refuses and threatens to cancel his concert at the restaurant if he is not allowed to have dinner with other white people hearing the doc's threat the manager then asked tony to talkone-on-one he's trying to bribe tonyinto coaxing doc to have dinner out tohim allowing a black man to eat in a restaurant was like allowing the monkey to eat a banana on a golden plate justas tony was about to hit the manager thedoc came over and told him to stop doc says this time he will take tony'sadvice if tony wants to see him performthe doc is willing to eat out but iftony doesn't want to then doc willcancel his last tour concert heard thattony was very sad he finally realized how difficult the life he had beenliving after considering everything tony decided to leave and cancel their last concert tour on the way home the doctakes tony to dinner at a black bar after dinner a waiter asked why theywere both wearing suits when they onlywanted to eat tony then explains that doc is a famous pianisthe should be performing at a fancyrestaurant by now but he prefers to eatat this bar because the food there isnot delicious hearing his little barbeing praised the waiter was flatteredand then asked the doc to play the pianoand entertain all the patrons inexchange for the mealeveryone seemed to really like the doc'sappearance even the band members at thebar invited them to a duet with them andfor the first time in his life doc felt what it was like to have fun withouthaving to fake a smile finished having fun doc and tony then went home on this christmas eve thereare many good things that change the way they both view the meaning of life onthe way there was a blizzard when tony wants to find a nearby lodging for the doc the doc refuses and says that tonymust be home tonight to celebrate christmas with his family the doc thendrove in tony's place after a longjourney the two of them finally  arrived in front of tony's house tony then invites the doc to go insideto meet his family but doc is aware thathe is a black person his presence would surely make tony's family feel uncomfortable doc then choose to go from there when he got home doc went back to livinghis life as before lonely life without family without friends without bestfriends he suddenly remembered tony's words that the doc had a choice he isfree to do whatever he likes even ifit's just a small thing while at tony's house while they were having dinner withh is family tony heard a knock on the door when it opened it turned out that tony's friend had come to visit and when tony wanted to close the door he was surprised to see the doc was out side tony was so happy that his best friend had finally come he then introduced the doc to his family and unexpectedly tony's whole family was able to warmly welcome the doc's presence his family issure that doc must be a good person because he has succeeded in changing tony who used to hate black people now instead he can actually be good friends with doc tony's wife then hugged doc while thanking him for helping tony write a love letter for him now the doc goal has been achieved he managed to change the hearts of white people even if only tony's family you
